Selemela


A digital platform to bridge the gap between education theory and practice in Lesotho.


The brief

Selemela approached Breinstorm Brand Architects (BBA) to build a digital platform for the Selemela Learning Network, a collaboration between Selemela and the Glasswaters Foundation to improve access, quality, equity and relevance of education in Lesotho. 

Our first step was to refine their brand identity before building a comprehensive website that learners, parents, teachers and donors could engage with and access more information on Selemela’s programmes.



The transformation


Drawing inspiration from Pleiades

Selemela translates to Pleiades, a cluster of over 1 000 stars. This constellation was represented by a single star, guiding the way, and married with an illustration of a book, bringing in concepts of education and storytelling: a doorway of possibility.


A celestial visual language

A full set of icons and illustrations, in the same visual language as the logo, was developed to represent Selemela’s five programmes, and guide the user experience on the digital platform.


A custom-built digital platform

BBA designed and developed a custom digital platform that allows the Selemela team to disseminate information and research; put out tenders; connect users; sell merchandise through an e-commerce store; showcase the impact of their work; and accept donations.
